A brief journey inside one of the largest Data Centres in the World

Last week, I had the chance to visit one of the largest Data Centres in the World that is located in Metro-area Atlanta, Georgia as part of a project of a customer’s Data Centre relocation. Being in several large Data Centres in the past makes me say I am really impressed by the huge data footprint, Systems organisation, Access security, and the massive support infrastructure for The Data Centre. This massive facility features its own on-site Georgia Power substation and direct Fibre access to a wide variety of carrier alternatives.

I took the opportunity to take several pictures of one Corridor location in the Data Centre, and it is an endless hall with several doors on the right and left, each is representing a massive Data Centre locations hosting several Carriers and providers.
Huge hall way with Data Centres doors on the right and left each protected by two factor physical access and two doors access to a huge data centres.

A Good read : Cisco Expressway with Multiple Domain setup

A very good guide in how to setup Cisco Expressway for Mobile and Remote Access (MRA) in a multi-domain setup.

A good read in the following Link:

A Good Read: Speeding up the internet

A very good Article by Terry Slattery on NoJitter Portal. He is arguing about the current network research of speeding up the internet and a trial by some network researchers in Duke and Illinois universities in testing several part of the internet access in Microwave Link access in the effect of this improvement to the general speed of the internet in this part. In this article, Terry is refereeing to the current limitations in TCP/UDP protocol stack in relation to the current used application and also three current used alternative that could be leveraged to mitigate those limitations.

The proposed alternative protocols are:

  • Stream Control Transport Protocol (SCTP): that is documented in RFC4960 that clearly describes the limitations in the current TCP/UDP protocols and  how SCTP would address those limitations. In a future Post, we will work through using SCTP along with Session initiation Protocol in WebRTC technology.
  • SPDY: which is not an abbreviation but a word-playing of the actual “Speedy” that was a trial from Google to promote high speed web access in which is replaced later by HTTP/2
  • Quick UDP for Internet Connection (QUIC): In which Google introduced back in 2013 to the public and with an excellent update back in April 2015 that is used now in the YouTube streaming with a Zero-ms Delay in session transmission eliminating the Three-way handshaking in traditional TCP and provide significant improvement in using TCP over TLS.

How this will shape the future of the Unified Communications Applications and Interactive Voice and Video over IP. Improving the underlying transport protocol will introduce a significant effect on the performance the Collaborations services from interactive immersive Video conferencing to IM and Presence Chat service.

In A future post, we will perform some digging in both SCTP and its WebRTC adaption and QUIC with Youtube and how it can be application to Unified Communications Applications.

A Good read – A Quick look at the sate of the UCaaS by Joseph Williams

A good read about the current state of Unified Communications as a Service by Joseph Williams at UCstartegies.com . He highlights two major aspects in the current offering of UCaaS from vendors and Operators. This includes the lack of  KPIs and the challenge of having a geographical resilient architecture.

The article is  titled A Quick Look at the State of UC as a Service  Enjoy the read.

Insights into Cisco Live US 2015 in San Diego – First of All

Hi,

It was really a fun week. Cisco Live this year in San Diego is amazing. This is my second attendance to Cisco Live and first time to be in San Diego, and I have to say: It was a BLAST. This year’s Cisco Live in the US is really unique. It is really emotional to say goodbye to the amazing John Chambers and watch the smooth transition to the upcoming CEO Chuck Robbins.

As a member in the CCIE Certification Advisory Council, I got invited to the NetVet event this year.It was the first time to attend the NetVet and it is really great. The idea to get to know the like minded CCIE community around the world and interact with them is really a great experience. I can’t believe the number of people of multiple CCIEs. Made me jealous though. 🙂 . But it was a great to meet both John Chambers and Chuck Robbins in an exclusive open table Questions and Answers with the CCIE community. I managed even to take a picture with both leaders. 🙂

I have attended many sessions in Collaborations, SDN, Data Centre, and DevNet Events. Very unique sessions captured my attention in which I will put a brief in the next posts. I really enjoyed the DevNet sessions and Labs. If you are planning to go to Cisco Live next year or next time GO TO DEVNET LABS 🙂

Finally, I wanted to Say:

I LOVE SAN DIEGO. 🙂 It is an amazing City. The beach. The People. It is a great place to relax, meet friends, and have a good time.

San Diego Hotel Del Coronado - Coronado Island.

I will be posting a brief of some of the sessions I attended. Stay tuned 🙂
